Oshi No Ko Ep 2 English Dubbed
In the captivating world of the idol industry, there is a series that
stands out for its unique and mysterious premise. Oshi No Ko combines
elements of isekai madness with an enthralling murder mystery. Amidst
this backdrop, we follow the twins Aqua and Ruby, whose individual
motives and hidden agendas take center stage in these chapters. Ruby
aspires to become an idol, while Aqua seeks to unravel the truth behind
their mother's untimely death.

Volume 2 of Oshi No Ko starts with
a recap, offering a clearer glimpse into Ruby's true character.
Although the isekai theme remains present, both Aqua and Ruby emerge as
distinct individuals, irrespective of their past lives. This is largely
due to the grounded nature of the storytelling. While fantastical
elements permeate their journey, it all unfolds within the confines of
reality as they pursue their respective goals.
Aqua takes on the
role of his sister's puppet master in her budding career. Despite his
attempts to slow her down, Ruby remains unwavering in her desire to
become an idol. While Aqua's efforts may seem futile as she manages to
enter the industry, he persists, driven by his overarching plan.
Although his tactics may not always be clear, it becomes apparent that
he believes they must approach the industry from different angles, with
him as an actor and her as an idol, in order to achieve their
objectives.
One aspect I particularly appreciate about this
volume is its examination of the entertainment industry. It lays bare
the cutthroat nature of the business, where even talented individuals
can be discarded for the slightest reasons. Aqua, however, refuses to
conform to these rules, yet he manages to disrupt the status quo. As the
school year begins, he steps in to assist his sister, relishing his
ability to manipulate the situation. While I may not fully agree with
his methods, I believe his intentions are rooted in good.
Ruby,
on the other hand, is depicted as a determined and resilient character.
Yet, it often feels as though she is a mere pawn in the hands of
external forces, as the actions of those around her have a greater
impact on her character development. I am eager to witness her autonomy
and see how she overcomes challenges without the influence of others.
Oshi
No Ko Volume 2 offers readers a deeper understanding of the characters'
goals and provides a glimpse into the dark underbelly of the
entertainment industry. Although the narrative may be challenging to
follow if rushed, paying attention to each panel reveals intricate
facial illustrations that highlight crucial plot points and foreshadow
future encounters. Suffice it to say, this series keeps me on the edge
of my seat, gradually revealing information as the two protagonists
pursue their contrasting dreams.
Aqua has transformed into a gloomy and pessimistic young boy, while
Ruby persists in her pursuit of being recruited as an idol by an agency.
Despite facing multiple rejections, she remains determined. Aqua warns
her about the price of fame—low wages, emotional stress, and the
potential for lifelong stalkers as an entertainer.
Miyako has
taken on the responsibility of caring for both Aqua and Ruby after
Ichigo Saito's disappearance. The B Komachi group disbanded two years
after the death of their mother, Ai. Miyako now manages Ichigo
Productions, which primarily handles internet personalities to sustain
the company.
After enduring a rigorous recruitment process at
various agencies, Ruby eventually receives a rejection call. Unbeknownst
to her, Aqua and the director from Episode 1 were behind this decision.
Aqua has thoroughly researched the agency and is adamant about
preventing Ruby from joining. The director assists him as Aqua has been
helping with film production and editing.
It is revealed that
Aqua himself had tried to pursue acting but realized he lacked the
talent to succeed. Nonetheless, driven by his determination to find his
father, he still yearns to be part of the entertainment industry.
Shortly
after, Ruby gets scouted by an underground agency to become an idol
once again. This time, Aqua employs a different approach. He poses as a
representative from Ichigo Productions, attempting to poach talent from
the underground agency. When that talent criticizes the agency, Aqua
decides he cannot allow Ruby to enter a world with such conditions.
Miyako
and Aqua propose that Ruby join Ichigo Productions as their first idol
talent in over a decade. Without hesitation, Ruby agrees and signs on.
Both Aqua and Ruby then enroll in a prestigious school renowned for its
entertainment program. Ruby gains admission through her agency
affiliation, while Aqua's intellect allows him to enter the general
program.
On their first day, they unexpectedly encounter an old
friend, Kana Arima, who is delighted to see Aqua, believing he had left
the industry. However, Aqua nonchalantly reveals that he is in the
general program, leaving Kana shocked.
While this episode lacks
the same level of suspense and emotional intensity as the previous one,
it serves as an essential foundation for the main characters. Episode 2
primarily focuses on setting the stage, providing backstory to catch up
with Aqua and Ruby's current lives.
Despite this, significant
character development still occurs. Miyako undergoes a complete
transformation, evolving from a ruthless opportunist into a crucial
parental figure for Aqua and Ruby. Aqua exhibits the potential for
manipulation and deception, reminiscent of his mother, along with his
wisdom, making him an intelligent character.
